Power outage hits Libyan cities
Several Libyan cities are experiencing widespread power outages due to drone attacks on power generation stations, particularly in areas such as Zawiya, Ubari, and Al Khums. These attacks have caused most of the stations to go offline and led to a deterioration of the electrical grid in the south, west, and central regions. In western Libya, including Tripoli, Sabratha, Sorman, and Gharyan, large-scale blackouts are occurring because of targeted strikes on key stations like the Harsha station, which was hit in August, resulting in a fire and power outages. The Libyan authorities are currently investigating the sources of the drones and the parties responsible for carrying out these attacks, amidst ongoing targeted escalation against critical infrastructure. Meanwhile, the United Nations mission is working to address political differences that have hindered elections, which seem necessary to end the ongoing conflicts since 2011.
