Carthage Festival highlights Mayada El Hanawi's Algerian roots
The performance of artist Mayada El Hennawy at the Carthage International Festival reflected a decline in her vocal power compared to her previous career. This raised questions about whether legendary artists can deliver performances worthy of their established history in the later stages of their lives. The article emphasized that age alone does not determine an artist's ability to perform; factors such as health, training, and adaptation to vocal changes are crucial. It cited Charles Aznavour's experience, who continued singing into his nineties while remaining aware of his vocal capabilities and limitations. The article also stressed the importance for artists to be aware of their vocal boundaries and to choose performances that suit their current abilities. It argued that true respect for an artist comes from honoring the natural end of their career without putting them in an awkward position. The audience should be accepting of the final chapters of an artist's life. Relying on nostalgia and longing for the past should not justify bringing an artist back onto stage if they cannot deliver the performance expected by the audience. Ultimately, respecting an artist’s decision to withdraw when they feel unable to contribute is the best approach.
