The article discussed the statements made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration, Walid Al-Mesri, regarding the modification of municipal boundaries in Jordan. He clarified that any adjustments or annexations require consideration of demographic and tribal compositions, as well as an assessment of the social and financial impacts on the affected areas. He emphasized that decisions are made based on the recommendation of the administrative governor and the approval of the Council of Ministers, with the necessary submission of a study on the municipality’s capacity to provide services. He also stressed that these operations demand careful evaluation to avoid social and tribal issues, noting that municipalities are not autonomous authorities but are subordinate to the executive branch, with government support to facilitate service delivery. Currently, Parliament is reviewing the Local Administration Law for 2026, which includes regulations for these processes.
