The Jordanian House of Representatives approved 35 articles of the Local Administration Law for 2026, out of a total of 70 articles. The law includes regulations governing the work of municipalities, such as classifying them into three categories, adjusting their boundaries, and expanding or contracting their areas, all while considering demographic and social factors. It also outlined the formation of a committee to regulate building standards, the registration of municipal real estate assets, and the unification of fee collection procedures, emphasizing that private companies should not be used to collect routine fees. Additionally, the law specifies financial responsibilities of municipalities, especially regarding the costs of paving roads and constructing retaining walls, with cost-sharing arrangements between the municipality and property owners. It ensures that citizens are not burdened with additional costs for maintenance after road construction, aiming to achieve fairness and enable municipalities to manage their projects in partnership with the private sector.
