Zarqa Improves Road Safety
The Zarqa Works Directorate carried out a series of maintenance activities to improve the infrastructure of vital roads within the governorate, at a cost of 134,000 Jordanian dinars funded from the Governorate Council’s budget. The work included replacing deteriorated pipe culverts at three locations on the Bureen Al-Khaleh Road with high-capacity box culverts to enhance rainwater drainage efficiency, preventing water pooling and traffic obstructions. Additionally, entrances and exits of culverts were improved at 16 sites along the Jerash-Zarqa and Bureen Al-Khaleh Roads, utilizing gabions and riprap to ensure the road edges do not erode during rains. Shoreline linings were also carried out on a main trench using riprap at the Duqra intersection to improve water runoff, in preparation for the winter season. These measures aim to reduce the impact of rain on road conditions, enhance traffic safety, and ensure the durability of infrastructure. These activities are part of the Directorate’s ongoing efforts to develop public facilities and secure the safety of road users.
