Jordan and Yemen Developments
The article discusses the recent developments in Yemen and their direct impact on Jordan's interests and security. This is especially significant after the Houthi group took control of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and its strategic islands, which threatens maritime navigation routes and global oil supplies. It is noted that the Houthis are imposing a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia and pose a threat to Jordan’s interests by potentially targeting ships bound for the Port of Aqaba, Jordan’s main hub for international trade. The piece suggests that the escalating tension between the Houthis and Iran could amplify security threats to the Kingdom, with possible additional tensions that could impact its economy, which heavily relies on the Port of Aqaba, through which most of its exports and imports pass.
