Nearly 76 people have lost their lives, and 13 others are still missing following a fire on a ferry in the Philippines. Rescue efforts have recovered an additional 41 bodies from the wreckage of the vessel, which was carrying over 130 people. Prior to the fire’s outbreak, two explosions were heard inside the ship, which then spread rapidly; reports suggest that a small fire occurred beforehand. This incident is the latest in a series of maritime accidents in the Philippines, a country heavily reliant on ferries and boats for transportation between its islands, part of an archipelago consisting of more than 7,600 islands.
