The spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Interior clarified that approximately one million Syrian refugees are residing in Jordan, of whom 76,936 are in camps. Since December 2024 up to September 2026, around 231,720 Syrians have voluntarily returned to their homeland. While the return process initially saw strong momentum facilitated by government support—including cash assistance and special programs for the most vulnerable families—there has been a decline in the number of returns. Data show that over 1.8 million Syrians have returned voluntarily since the program's inception. Nonetheless, challenges and flexibility remain in the return procedures, especially given the conditions allowing refugees to return even after their passports have expired. Additionally, the Jaber-Nusseib border crossing has been opened for up to 12 hours during this period to facilitate return efforts.
