Israeli minister warns on filmmakers' citizenship
Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar announced his intention to revoke the Israeli citizenship of directors Yoav Abraham and Rachel Zor after they won an award at the Venice Film Festival, due to their criticism of the military operations in Gaza. The documentary film "Naza," released in 2025 and based on journalistic investigations, explores methods of targeting Palestinians through surveillance systems and artificial intelligence, featuring testimonies from soldiers and details of military operations, which sparked controversy in Israel. Despite its international and popular success, the two directors face threats of citizenship revocation due to their stances, while they remain proud of the award and the film’s goal of stimulating internal debate about wartime practices.
