Researcher John Finabble from the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies revealed a significant decline in the training flights of fighter pilots in the U.S. Air Force. The average number of flights in 2023 was only 5.5 per month, amounting to about 60% of the required level. This reduction could impact pilot readiness and their ability to carry out combat missions, especially as the pilot shortage has risen to approximately 2,400 pilots. Additionally, funding allocated for 6,000 aviation maintenance jobs has been reallocated, adding further pressure on the training and maintenance systems. Experts warn that this could affect the performance of American forces across multiple regions worldwide.
