Nidal al-Awaran, the Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, reported that the ammonia gas leak incident at the Aqaba industrial complex occurred during maintenance work on an old piece of equipment. Previously, there had been accumulations of gas that led to a limited leak. The situation caused several workers to suffocate due to their proximity to the source of the leak. Currently, safety procedures are being reviewed in coordination with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and identify any potential malfunction, in order to ensure it does not happen again.
