Bayern Munich host their rivals Borussia Dortmund on the eighth matchday of the Bundesliga, after a turbulent week that included Harry Kane winning the Ballon d’Or and coach Vincent Kompany’s absence due to irritation of the meninges. Kompany left hospital after five days, but his return could take weeks. The two teams are level on points after seven matchdays and are the only sides yet to lose, with Bayern ahead on goal difference. Bayern are also without Joshua Kimmich and are dealing with injuries to several players, while assistant coach Aaron Danks hopes these challenges will strengthen the team’s cohesion.
