Gaza's Winter Flood Risk
The Winter Emergency Committee in the Gaza Strip has warned of an imminent humanitarian disaster as winter approaches. Around 7,800 tents are at risk of being flooded by runoff and rising sea waves, while displaced people are living in roughly 200,000 dilapidated tents exposed to rain and cold. The destruction of around 70% of municipal equipment and 90% of Civil Defense equipment has made it harder to respond. Only five run-down vacuum trucks and 24 small pumps are available. The committee called for urgent intervention to provide suitable shelter tents, water-removal equipment, and means of protection from floods and rain.
