Lebanese Electricity Crisis Overview
Lebanon is currently suffering from a severe crisis in the electricity sector, with power generation capacity dropping to unprecedented levels, only between 100 and 200 megawatts. This has resulted in nearly complete power outages in most areas, except for some vital facilities that are given priority. The decline in production is due to a shortage of fuel oil, as the country awaits the unloading of a shipment of fuel on a vessel. It is expected that once the fuel is available, production capacity will be restored. Experts warn that the situation is very delicate, and any additional technical failure could lead to a complete collapse of the electrical grid and plunge Lebanon into total darkness.
