The discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American envoys Steve Weitzkopf and Jared Kushner are seeking ways to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has lasted for more than four years. The parties agreed to cease attacks on their respective capitals for three days during the negotiations, amid escalating strikes and increasing casualties. Putin reiterated Russia's desire to control the remaining parts of eastern Ukraine. This is the envoys' first visit to Kyiv since the outbreak of the conflict, and expectations are that the negotiations could lead to a breakthrough in the peace process. It is believed that Washington’s current efforts are focused on assessing the possibility of reaching an agreement to end the war, despite the complexities of the situation and the prevailing military escalation.
