Hanging sentence for journalist Khalifa and others
Today, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Egyptian producers Sarah Khaleefa and 11 other defendants to death by hanging in a case involving drug trafficking and manufacturing. Their convictions were based on establishing their participation in forming an organized crime gang to smuggle and produce drugs for trade, in addition to possessing unlicensed firearms. According to investigations, Khaleefa contributed to providing part of the funding for the operation and traveled to meet with one of the main accused to resume the smuggling activities, utilizing digital evidence and testimonies. The ruling included 28 defendants, with 9 others receiving prison sentences and several others being sentenced to life imprisonment. The court acquitted seven additional defendants.
