US Tightens Grip on Lebanese Resistance
The article discusses the escalation of American pressures on Lebanon to establish full sovereignty over the country, through financial and diplomatic sanctions aimed at dismantling the Iranian-backed party network and its militias. Sources confirm that Washington demands an end to the militia-like situation, the reestablishment of control over weapons, and links the re-integration of the banking sector and Lebanon's reconstruction with measures against money laundering and the parallel cash economy. The article points to a disconnect in understandings and a lack of options for Hezbollah, amid its military and political decline, with increasing economic and living tensions in Lebanon. There is a broad international consensus on the necessity for the state to regain control over its decision-making and for the army to hold its weapons, in order to stop Hezbollah's recklessness and restore sovereign balance.
