Beirut Port Workshop Highlights Reconciliation
The Beirut Port Management and Investment Authority, in collaboration with the World Bank, Organized a workshop on "Integration and Communication between the City and the Port," aiming to achieve harmony and reconciliation between the port and the capital. The Chairman, Marwan Nefy, emphasized that the 139 years since the port's establishment, along with the city's expansion, have led to conflicting growth patterns, which have increased the challenges of rebuilding and maintaining its economic role—especially after the widespread damage caused by the August 4th explosion. Nefy pointed out the importance of strengthening integration, given that over 80% of trade movement continues to pass through the port, with future expansion plans to make it one of the top ten ports in the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East. The workshop addressed development opportunities and challenges presented by experts and academics, recommending increased communication to enhance urban and economic links between Beirut and the port. These efforts are part of broader initiatives to revive its economic role and balance urban expansion with port development.
