Al-Sadr disbands militia as Cave group stays armed
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, announced the dissolution of the "Promised Day" Brigade and the transformation of the Mahdi Army into the Al-Mahdi Supporters Organization, as part of steps to regulate weapons under state control in Iraq. Al-Sadr called for political reforms and the mobilization of security forces, warning against foreign interference and the need to cut off external arms supplies. In contrast, the "People of the Cave" faction viewed arming as an unrealistic dream and threatened military retaliation against any foreign presence, reaffirming their continued participation in the axis policy and attacking any country that infringes on Iran's interests in Iraq.
