Lebanon's Amnesty Nears Finalization
The article discusses the progress of the General Amnesty Law in Lebanon towards resolution before the Constitutional Council, where the designated judge submitted his report, potentially leading to the annulment of certain provisions of the law, especially those related to distinctions between military personnel and civilians, as well as exceptions for crimes related to drugs, corruption, and embezzlement. The fate of the contested provisions is awaited, along with the adoption of mechanisms to unify the procedures for implementation, while the review of cases of detainees and wanted individuals continues to ensure they meet the conditions for amnesty. Implementation remains on hold until the final decision is issued by the Constitutional Council, which will determine whether some provisions are annulled or retained, with ongoing monitoring of adherence to the legislative process stages and the correctness of the legal texts.
