Florida military talks October 20-22
Reports have been conveyed about the resumption of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations under American sponsorship, after Lebanon announced the convening of a new session in Tampa, Florida, before Israel’s elections. The goal is to discuss the disarmament of Hezbollah and to restrict arms to the state, with Washington reaffirming its support for the Lebanese Army. These developments come amidst an Israeli escalation in southern Lebanon and ongoing security and economic pressures on Lebanon. U.S. officials reiterated their support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and the complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, emphasizing that Hezbollah must surrender its weapons. The management of the conflict is leaning towards military negotiations, with Washington focusing on consolidating state authority and supporting the Lebanese Army, amid continued field escalation and Israeli shelling targeting Lebanese areas.
