Al-Boustani Calls for Budget Focus on Reform
An article discussed Lebanon's 2027 budget, where Member of Parliament Fared Al-Boustani emphasized the need to make the budget a tool for financial reform and investment, rather than relying solely on the numerical balance. He explained that balancing the budget does not guarantee the sustainability of public finances or tax justice. He called for increasing revenues from non-tax sources, such as boosting exports and expanding economic activity, along with reducing unnecessary spending. The focus should be on prudent expenditure and achieving a greater balance between current spending and investment in infrastructure and services. He also stressed the importance of addressing public debt, restructuring the banking sector, and exploring new resources to achieve financial sustainability and sustainable economic growth, without solely resorting to tax hikes.
