Hezbollah Calls for Iran Replacement in South Lebanon
The article discusses the proposal to establish a multinational international force as an alternative to UNIFIL in South Lebanon, following the end of its current mission and within the context of a potential Israeli withdrawal from areas considered a core part of Hezbollah's influence. The party aims to ensure that the new force is composed of countries with good relations with Iran, in order to create a balance within the international force and prevent it from being entirely Western, thus allowing Hezbollah to maintain its influence in sensitive areas that are part of its military and political environment. The party also seeks to transfer the deterrence and protection functions previously provided by Iran, fearing that the deployment of foreign forces could threaten their authority, especially as direct Iranian support diminishes. The significance of this issue depends on the international force's ability to support the Lebanese state's authority or whether it will become a battleground for competition among regional and international axes. Hezbollah's goal is to preserve the protective network that enables it to maintain regional equilibrium.
