Mali Battles Shift from Power to Strain
Mali is experiencing a change in the nature of the conflict amid escalating attacks by armed groups, especially the "Support of Islam and Muslims" organization, which now employs a strategy of attrition by targeting mobile convoys and supply routes between northern and southern Mali, particularly in strategic areas such as NiHello and Duyura. These developments complicate the security situation and require Malian forces and the African corps to face new challenges, as terrorist groups are shifting their focus from controlling fixed positions to disrupting supply movements. This poses a threat to regional stability and makes it difficult to sustain military operations over the long term. This transformation reflects a shift from territorial control to a struggle over mobility and logistics, indicating ongoing external interventions, such as the Russian partnership, in supporting the asymmetric warfare in the region.
