France faces unrest with protests and arrests
The French government is facing its worst educational crisis in months, as protesting students—most of whom are high school students—are leading widespread demonstrations due to deteriorating learning conditions. Their demands include increased funding, improved school infrastructure, more teachers, and addressing overcrowding in classrooms, which can reach up to 40 students. Students also express their frustration over low wages, staff shortages, deteriorating school buildings, as well as issues with online university application methods and classroom conditions during heatwaves. The protests highlight that the government is under political and economic pressure, with ongoing school closures and the detention of hundreds of students, some of whom have been injured as a result of police using excessive force.
