Washington targets Hamas-linked crypto and charities
The United States has called on the U.S. Department of the Treasury to impose sanctions on a network linked to Hamas, including a deputy leader in its military wing and two financial facilitators in France, due to their role in raising and transferring over $2 million between 2020 and 2026 through charitable fronts and cryptocurrency wallets. The network used humanitarian donations, relying on money transfer companies and digital services to deliver funds to the Qassam Brigades, with the volume of money increasing after the escalation of events in October 2023. These measures are part of a U.S. campaign to weaken Hamas's financing, especially through cryptocurrencies and charitable fronts, and coincide with legal actions by France and the United States aimed at targeting these networks.
