Lebanese prisoners at risk with 7 deaths pending
The article addresses the humanitarian situation at Roumieh Prison in Lebanon, where hunger-striking inmates, numbering around 532 prisoners, face the risk of death due to their deteriorating health, with seven deaths recorded since the strike began on August 12. This occurs amid the suspension of the amnesty law that the prisoners are demanding, sparking a political, security, and social crisis—especially as the Constitutional Council’s decision regarding the legal challenge to the law is awaited. The health situation is worsening, with many protesters’ conditions deteriorating and some being transferred to hospitals, amid escalating fears of a humanitarian disaster if the wait continues. Judicial and security authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are taking urgent measures, while the protesters are calling for the immediate reactivation of the amnesty law to end their suffering.
