Al-Zein reviews Akkar landfill compensation plan
Minister of Environment Tamara Al-Zein focused on the measures to address the Sarar landfill in Akkar. Emphasis was placed on enforcing environmental standards and temporarily reopening the landfill to prevent the accumulation of waste, pending the operation of a new sanitary landfill and treatment plant by the end of February 2027. These projects are expected to help manage waste safely and environmentally, while encouraging the expansion of source separation and reducing the volume of waste sent to the landfill. Additionally, efforts have been made to provide incentives and assistance to affected villages to ensure a fair distribution of environmental and social burdens.
