Union threatens central Beirut protest
The Public Administration Employees' Union in Lebanon has called on the government to approve a daily transportation allowance equivalent to 10 liters of gasoline for each workday, due to rising gasoline prices and the fact that the price of a gasoline canister has exceeded $32. The union pointed out that the government has not allocated this allowance to public administration employees, despite it costing no more than 2.5 billion Lebanese pounds annually from the state budget. The union emphasized that failure to meet this demand will lead to ongoing strikes and closure of administrative offices, with the possibility of escalating actions to pressure the government into achieving justice and improving the employees' conditions. This comes amid the government's refusal to reconsider employees’ demands, prompting the union to announce weekly strikes and plan to organize a centralized protest in Beirut next week.
