Spain Barcelona clashes over housing and elections
Clashes erupted in Barcelona between the police and protesters over demonstrations against the housing crisis in Spain, following the parliament's failure to pass a proposed governmental package of measures to address rising rent costs and evictions. This failure sparked widespread outrage, especially after an 87-year-old elderly woman was evicted from her home in Madrid. The protests came after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called for early elections on November 29, increasing pressure on the government to present more effective solutions to the crisis, as rental prices have doubled over the past decade and housing prices have surged by 90%.
