LBCI’s Role in Regional Politics
The article discusses the Lebanese Progressive Socialist Party's stance on the tripartite framework of regional circumstances. The party's Media Commissioner emphasized that their position is scientific and not tied to any specific regional alignment, neither influenced by Iran's dominance nor by U.S. interests. He considers that adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, the ceasefire agreement, and the references of the Taif Agreement could have been an option for Lebanon. However, internal reluctance among some factions to rely on this has prevented it. He also pointed out that respecting the Taif Agreement requires Israel to withdraw its forces in accordance with the 1949 agreement, and that establishing clear positions reflects Lebanon's independent stance in facing regional pressures.
