Rising Breast Cancer Cases in Lebanon
The report indicated that breast cancer in Lebanon is no longer limited to older women, as half of the diagnosed cases are under the age of 50, with a continuous rise in annual cases. Between 2014 and 2024, the number of cases increased from 2,528 to 3,754 annually, representing a 67.3% increase. In 2024, breast cancer accounted for 40% of all cancer cases among women, with an incidence rate of 101 cases per 100,000 women, surpassing the global rate of 47.8. The rise is attributed to multiple factors, including pollution and smoking, emphasizing the importance of enhancing early detection programs, especially since the disease is appearing in younger age groups, with the aim of improving treatment opportunities and prevention.
