Legislation Aims to Support Arab Lebanese Army Soldiers
The article discusses a proposed law aimed at regularizing the status of former Lebanese military personnel who served during Lebanon's period of division from 1975 to the 1990s. The proposal includes entitlements to pension rights for eligible beneficiaries and targets military personnel who left service to join armed groups or were subjected to unlawful discharge decisions, without offering their return to service or granting them promotion rights. The law defines the rights of beneficiaries according to their ranks and mandates the establishment of a committee to review names and verify cases. Its goal is to end the suffering of hundreds of marginalized Lebanese families, emphasizing national and humanitarian justice, focusing on financial settlements and the settlement of pension rights, without opening the door for an official return to the army or granting amnesty for criminal offenses.
