Ja'ja: Electricity crisis demands urgent action
The article addresses the electricity crisis in Lebanon, where the head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, confirmed that the problem goes beyond mere technical issues and requires urgent decisions to resolve it. He explained that Lebanon suffers from weak production capacity, as the power plants currently generate only about one-third of the needed electricity due to years of neglect and lack of investment. He also emphasized that soaring fuel prices have led to a decline in power supply to very low levels. The solution, he said, involves rebuilding the sector based on institutional and economic foundations through law enforcement, activating regulatory bodies, investing in renewable energy, and focusing on the financial sustainability of Électricité du Liban. He pointed out that increasing the overall supply of electricity would reduce costs on citizens, help decrease reliance on private generators, lower electricity bills, and prevent total blackouts.
