South faces uncertainty as Lebanese Army departs
The article addresses the security and economic situation in southern Lebanon, where concerns are growing over the potential end of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) mission or its replacement with new security arrangements. It highlights the locals’ heavy reliance on international forces for mobility and economic security, noting that UNIFIL helps to protect roads and facilitate entry and exit. There are warnings about the risk of isolation and interruption of supplies if the forces withdraw. Additionally, the departure of UNIFIL impacts the local market and the jobs it provides, threatening the stability of families and their sources of income. This raises questions about the future security of the region and whether sustained stability can be maintained without clear alternatives. The residents call on the Lebanese government to take responsibility for preserving their identity and security.
