Hezbollah's covert funding across regions
The article presents a case study on the influence of Hezbollah militia in Venezuela, where evidence has increased indicating a decline in its military and economic presence within the country, especially following political and security changes and a reorganization of its operations. Nevertheless, investigations suggest that the party's networks still operate through the smuggling of black cocaine — a processed form obscured to hide its nature — targeting European and African markets, and generating enormous profits that bolster financing networks in Lebanon. Reports also highlight Hezbollah’s exploitation of free trade zones in Latin America, such as the Colon Free Zone in Panama and the border region between Brazil and Argentina, for money laundering and arms trafficking through false invoicing and shipment manipulation. It is advised that these zones implement strict measures to classify all branches of Hezbollah as terrorist organizations and activate banking sanctions to dismantle its cross-border funding networks.
