General Michel Aoun's Role in October 13 Crisis
In 1990, General Michel Aoun hurriedly submitted a 12-point peace proposal aimed at preventing fighting after the October 13 attack. This proposal included recognizing Prime Minister Elias Hrawi, a simultaneous resignation of Aoun’s and Hrawi’s governments, the formation of a national unity government, the unification of the armed forces, the disarmament of militias, and the holding of free parliamentary elections under the supervision of the United Nations. It also reaffirmed Lebanon’s right to free elections that reflect its people’s will and sovereign destiny. Nevertheless, the document was ignored by the forces that had pushed for a military solution, which led to continued crisis and devastation.
