General Aoun Prepares Lebanon for October 13
A report prepared by General Michel Aoun during his tenure revealed a peaceful initiative prior to the events of October 13, 1990. The report included a 12-point document sent to the French ambassador aimed at avoiding civil war in Lebanon. The document called for recognizing Elias Hrawi as president, resigning the dual government of Michel Aoun and Rafiq Hariri, forming a genuine national unity government, unifying the armed forces, dismantling militias, and holding free parliamentary elections under United Nations supervision. However, the document was ignored in favor of a military approach, despite its significance in safeguarding Palestinians' right to express their will through international elections that would ensure Lebanon's sovereignty.
