European mission updates on Lebanon
The report discusses the establishment of a new European mission to support security and military institutions in Lebanon. It will consist of 150 civilian and military personnel and will continue for three years, beginning before the end of the UNIFIL mandate, which is set to decrease and withdraw from southern Lebanon in early 2027. The mission aims to enhance security and stability, support the Lebanese Army in areas such as border security, anti-smuggling efforts, and surveillance, as well as assist the Internal Security Forces in combating cybercrime and port-related issues, including Beirut Port. This is considered an important step toward improving the capabilities of Lebanese security institutions, particularly in restoring sovereignty and strengthening stability, in tandem with UNIFIL's impending withdrawal.
