President emphasizes need for UNIFIL support
President Joseph Aoun emphasizes the necessity of maintaining the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon to ensure field stability and to reduce security and humanitarian risks resulting from an early withdrawal. He affirms that the presence of these forces is essential to fill the security gap, especially given Israel's occupation of southern villages and towns. The forces have significantly contributed to strengthening relations with local residents and providing vital humanitarian and logistical support to the Lebanese Army. Lebanon is calling on the international community to extend UNIFIL's mission for the coming year, given its importance in protecting the region and assisting the Lebanese Army, particularly in light of expectations that Israeli forces may withdraw from the area.
