President Salam urges UN-backed force in south
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam rejected the existence of an international vacuum in southern Lebanon following the end of the current UNIFIL mission. He also emphasized the need for a new international force authorized by the Security Council to ensure monitoring and communication. He affirmed that Lebanon is open to drafting any new international agreement for this role, provided that the mandate is clear and reliable. This statement was made during his meeting with the UN official responsible for peacekeeping operations, where he highlighted the importance of not emptying the south of international forces and called for the formation of a force that supports regional stability.
