12,000 African migrants reach Yemen amid conflict
A report issued by the International Organization for Migration revealed that approximately 12,000 African migrants arrived in Yemen within one month, despite ongoing war and worsening security and humanitarian conditions. This comes after at least 100 migrants were killed off the Yemeni coastline. The migrants are fleeing poverty, unemployment, and conflicts in the Horn of Africa in search of job opportunities and a better life, with Yemen serving as a transit point toward the Gulf countries. Reports warn of the dangers facing these migrants, including human trafficking and forced exploitation, with the majority of Ethiopian migrants subjected to various forms of abuse. There is an urgent need for international coordination to protect the migrants and to combat the activities of human trafficking networks.
