Lebanon Post-Zahr al-Bidar: Firm Approach or Temporary Measures
The discovery of the explosive shipment in Zahle sparked a heated debate about the Lebanese government's approach to dealing with illegal weapons, especially after Hezbollah admitted that the cargo belongs to them. The incident occurs amidst ongoing Israeli escalations and security threat warnings, with the government emphasizing that it will take decisive action against armed groups and all illegal weapons in order to reinforce state authority over security decisions and prevent a new escalation. This event could represent a turning point in the state's strategies to confront illegal weapons, but political and security complexities remain obstacles to a fundamental shift in approach.
