Paris presses forward on South Lebanon
The article discusses France's intensive efforts regarding the UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon after their mandate ended, focusing on ensuring regional stability and preventing the expansion of military or security movements that could threaten local and regional security. A French official emphasized that Paris is working to maintain the effectiveness of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in coordination with the Lebanese Army, warning of the dangers of any security vacuum in the area that could lead to wider instability. The article also notes ongoing international discussions about the future of peacekeeping forces, while Washington's opposition to international initiatives in southern Litani is complicating efforts to enhance stability.
