Apple shortage impacts supply chain
Lebanon is experiencing a crisis in apple exportation, as high energy costs threaten the storage centers' ability to preserve the harvest, amid misunderstandings regarding the receipt and distribution of oil aid. The government has agreed with oil companies to provide 225 barrels of diesel as an initial batch, but this amount is insufficient to meet the needs of refrigeration units, which require about 10 barrels per unit. Meanwhile, producers need more than two hundred thousand tons of apples to cover their expected production. This initiative highlights its limited effectiveness in resolving the crisis, as the season depends on opening external markets and overcoming financial obstacles with exporting countries, not solely on refrigeration.
