Sovereignty Hinges on South Occupation
As the UNIFIL forces approach withdrawal from Southern Lebanon at the end of 2026, Lebanon faces significant security challenges due to ongoing Israeli attacks and the stalled deployment of the Lebanese Army. The international community emphasizes the need for a sustainable security arrangement that reflects a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, with actual deployment of the Lebanese Army and respect for borders. It is also advised not to rely solely on international forces with limited mandates, and to establish reliable guarantees and investigations to monitor violations. This is essential for Lebanon to maintain its sovereignty, prevent the South from becoming a battleground for regional conflicts, and to encourage diplomatic and strategic efforts to ensure lasting security and stability.
