Beirut: Frozen Meats Marketed as Fresh
Beirut Municipality reported that its forces raided an establishment in the Khandaq al-Ghamiq area belonging to a person named Ahmed Kassar. During the inspection, they discovered equipment used for cutting and melting frozen and chilled meat, along with preparations for meat products such as burgers and sausages. It was found that the meats were being prepared upon requests from butcher shops in Beirut for promotion and sale to customers. Suspicion arose that the meats were being tampered with by thawing frozen meat and selling it as fresh, which violates health regulations and endangers food safety. Consequently, official notices were issued, the establishment was shut down, and legal measures were taken to prevent such practices from reoccurring. The butcher shops that were purchasing products from this establishment were also identified as part of efforts to tighten control over meat circulation and protect consumers.
