Matrouh: US lacks pressure on Israel
The Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon, Tarek Metri, confirmed that the United States has not exerted sufficient pressure on Israel so far to compel it to fulfill its commitments, despite an agreement on a gradual withdrawal from Lebanese territories, which has not been implemented yet. He explained that Israel refused to allow the Red Cross to visit Lebanese prisoners and has not provided Lebanon with lists of their names. Israel also seeks to use negotiations to declare an alliance with Lebanon against Hezbollah, which has not agreed to limit weapons to the state. Additionally, he mentioned that Lebanon has requested Iran to appoint a new ambassador in Beirut, and efforts are underway to resolve the diplomatic issue. He noted that Syria has assured that it has no intention of intervening in Lebanese affairs, with a third batch of Syrian prisoners sentenced in Lebanon nearing delivery to Damascus.
