Upholding dignity and significance
The article addresses the concept of preserving dignity and meaning in human life, emphasizing that failure is not solely due to the state's shortcomings but also stems from withdrawing from public affairs or living under them in a shameful manner, especially in Eastern countries like Lebanon. It highlights the importance of affirming self-worth and clinging to simple human pleasures, such as enjoying a cup of coffee or listening to music, despite the economic and moral challenges individuals face. These hardships make participation in public life a source of shame and disappointment. The article stresses that engaging in public duty often leads to stigmatizing one's self-image and losing dignity, which in turn heightens feelings of failure and shame in communities that lack justice and security.
