Japan readies first Mars sample mission
Japan is preparing to launch its first uncrewed mission to Mars, aiming to collect samples from one of Mars' moons, Phobos, to help uncover the origins of the solar system and the emergence of life on Earth. The H3 rocket is scheduled to launch the "Martian Moons Explorer" (MMX) probe from Tanegashima Space Center tomorrow, Tuesday. It is expected to arrive in the vicinity of Mars around August 2024, where it will orbit Phobos and collect at least 10 grams of surface material during a three-year operation within the Martian region. The mission's goal is to provide scientific evidence regarding the formation of the solar system and the emergence of life on Earth through the analysis of the collected samples.
